Hilton Honors Reportedly Introduces New Black Diamond Tier

Hilton Honors has reportedly started featuring a new 'Black Diamond' tier in internal materials, potentially placing it above 'The Honors Society' and 'Diamond Reserve' tiers.

When Hilton Honors made several adjustments in 2026, including introducing a new Diamond Reserve tier, removing rollover nights, and lowering the qualification requirements for the Diamond and Gold tiers, emotions ran high within the travel community.

Now, another rumour is hitting: Hilton Honors has reportedly begun featuring a new top-tier status called Black Diamond in its internal materials. None of this is official yet, so we cannot be sure that 'Black Diamond' is truly a thing – but if it is, the Hilton status, widely criticised, might become even more complex. And the previously sought-after 'Diamond' status looks even less valuable, potentially having four (!) levels above it (Lifetime Diamond, Diamond Reserve, The Honors Society, Black Diamond).

The alleged Black Diamond tier appears to be positioned above The Honors Society, a tier that began appearing in internal materials in December of the previous year before being integrated into a marketing campaign in June 2026. While the existence of Black Diamond is currently noted in internal training documents, it is unconfirmed whether it will be officially launched. The Honors Society tier, however, followed a similar internal rollout before its public acknowledgment.

Other hotel loyalty programmes, such as Marriott's Cobalt, Hyatt's Courtesy Card, and Accor's Limitless tiers, offer invitation-only statuses without transparent qualification criteria. Estimates suggest that Hyatt's Courtesy Card may require around $100,000 in annual spend, while Accor's Limitless could require €20,000 to €30,000 in annual spend for two to three years for an invitation. The qualification requirements for Hilton's potential Black Diamond tier, or even for The Honors Society, remain undefined.

Opinion

Again, while none of this is confirmed, Hilton Honors seems determined to dilute the benefits of its most loyal members by continually adding tiers above Diamond. First Diamond Reserve, then The Honors Society, and now Black Diamond. It is an insult to existing Diamond members who earned their status through genuine loyalty, only to find themselves pushed further down the upgrade queue by invitation-only 'elite of the elite' tiers. The lack of transparency around qualification for these higher tiers is particularly frustrating, especially when Hilton simultaneously lowered requirements for lower tiers. Hilton should focus on providing tangible benefits for all elites, not just creating exclusive clubs for the ultra-rich with no clear path to entry for most members.

Unfortunately, this matches the overall strategy that Hilton and other hotel chains are following: creating as many 'Elite' members as possible, often through credit card offers that include the status, while simultaneously diluting services and benefits.
