Lufthansa has initiated the rollout of its new high-speed inflight internet service, powered by Starlink. The inaugural flight featuring the new 'Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi' took place on 19 August 2026 aboard an Airbus A320neo (registration D-AINM) from Frankfurt to Rome.
This marks the first aircraft in the Lufthansa Group fleet to offer enhanced connectivity. Passengers can expect internet speeds reported to be faster than many home or office connections. The service is complimentary for Miles & More members and Travel ID users, regardless of their travel class.
Lufthansa plans to equip up to ten additional A320 family aircraft, operated by Lufthansa and Lufthansa City Airlines, with the new Starlink system before the end of 2026.
The airline group intends to extend Starlink technology across its entire fleet. By 2029, approximately 850 aircraft across all Lufthansa Group airlines are expected to be equipped with the service, aiming to provide a consistently high-quality online experience for all passengers.
I finally had my first Qatar flight with Starlink Wi-Fi a few months ago, and the speed was a game-changer. I don't think I'd want to take calls up in the air, especially since flights being a 'call-free zone' has always been a bit of a reward for me. But having fast internet to get things done, play games, check onward travel, fill in arrival forms, etc., really is fantastic. It's good to see Lufthansa jump on board.
