Philippine Airlines has launched a paid status match offer for its Mabuhay Miles frequent flyer programme. Travellers can secure either Mabuhay Miles Elite or Premier Elite status by paying a fee, with the matched status remaining valid until February 29, 2028. With Philippine Airlines joining the Oneworld alliance, this status might also become a Oneworld status; however, it is unclear which one and when this will happen.

Key details

  • Status validity: Until 29 February 2028

  • Cost: 199 USD (Elite) or 349 USD (Premier Elite)

  • Eligibility: Holders of status with numerous other airlines, as listed on statusmatch.com. Applicants with a registered residence outside the Philippines must select from programmes available in the application form. Applicants residing in the USA are excluded.

  • Excluded for match: Upgrade Travel Certificates for Premier Elite. Temporary status or status from challenges may be rejected. Status derived from another status match may be rejected.

The Mabuhay Miles Elite status is available for 199 USD, while the Premier Elite status can be obtained for 349 USD. Both tiers provide benefits such as lounge access, priority services, and additional baggage allowance when flying with Philippine Airlines and PAL Express.

Status Tiers and Benefits

The offer allows members with status in various other airline loyalty programmes to match their status to Mabuhay Miles. Examples of eligible programmes for Elite status include Lufthansa/Austrian/SWISS/Brussels/LOT/Croatia Airlines Miles & More Frequent Traveller, Air France/KLM Flying Blue Silver, and Emirates Skywards Silver. For Premier Elite, higher tiers such as Miles & More Senator/HON Circle, Flying Blue Gold/Platinum/Ultimate, and Emirates Skywards Gold/Platinum are accepted. A complete list of eligible programmes is available on statusmatch.com.

Key benefits for matched status holders include:

  • Elite: Priority Check-in at a dedicated counter, Priority Boarding, preferred baggage handling, priority for airport standby, 10 kg additional baggage, lounge access for the status holder, and status-dependent bonus miles.

  • Premier Elite: All Elite benefits, but with 30 kg or one additional piece of baggage (depending on the applicable baggage concept), and lounge access for the status holder and one accompanying guest.

The Premier Elite tier does not include the two Upgrade Travel Certificates typically associated with this status, as these are explicitly excluded from the status match offer. The status match application is processed via statusmatch.com and requires a free Mabuhay Miles account. Proof of existing status, such as a membership card or digital profile, is necessary, and identity verification may also be requested. Approved status changes are expected to appear in the Mabuhay Miles account within five working days.

Future Oneworld Benefits

Philippine Airlines was announced as a future member of the Oneworld alliance in June 2026. However, the current status match explicitly states that a matched Mabuhay Miles status does not presently include Oneworld-wide benefits. Oneworld priority services and lounge access are expected to become available to eligible Mabuhay Miles status holders only after Philippine Airlines' full integration into the alliance. The exact date for this integration, as well as the correlation between Mabuhay Miles tiers and Oneworld Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald status, has not yet been announced.

To retain or upgrade status beyond February 29, 2028, members must meet the standard Mabuhay Miles qualification criteria. Travel activity with Philippine Airlines in the calendar year 2027 will be considered for subsequent requalification.

Opinion

The costs of 199 USD for Elite or 349 USD for Premier Elite are significant, but the extended validity period could justify the outlay for frequent Philippine Airlines flyers. I assume the status match is also tempting for those eyeing a possible Oneworld status, but relying on speculative future benefits is a gamble. It sometimes takes longer to fully integrate an airline into a network, so the status validity might run out before any Oneworld benefits can be utilised.
