The Park Hyatt Sydney has removed its 'resort property' classification, effective 26 August 2026. This change means that World of Hyatt Globalist members, and those utilising Guest of Honour certificates, will once again receive a guaranteed 4 p.m. late check-out at the property.
The hotel had previously adopted a resort designation in May 2026. This classification exempted it from the standard World of Hyatt benefit of guaranteed late check-out for Globalist elite members. The return to a non-resort status reverses this policy change, making the benefit applicable again. This wasn't officially communicated, but apparently the late check-out policy

Why is this change concerning just one hotel relevant? Because there has been a trend of Hyatt properties reclassifying themselves as 'resort properties' in recent years, even though they clearly do not fit that definition. The goal was obviously to avoid adhering to Globalist perks like the 4 p.m. check-out.
Luckily, common sense has prevailed, even if it took a few months. The Park Hyatt Sydney was never a resort by any reasonable definition. It is a positive development that the hotel has backtracked, reinstating a core perk for loyal Hyatt guests. This situation highlights how easily hotels can attempt to erode programme benefits under the guise of reclassification, making vigilance essential for frequent travellers.
However, there are plenty of other Hyatt properties that still pull this stunt, with the Park Hyatt Tokyo being the latest addition to that line-up.
