Turkish Airlines offers up to 20k Status Miles for buying Miles&Smiles Miles

Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles has launched a limited-time campaign, allowing members to earn Status Miles when purchasing redeemable miles. This promotion enables members to accrue up to 20,000 Status Miles, which can be used for achieving or retaining elite status within the program.

The campaign is active from 2 September to 10 September 2026. During this period, members who purchase miles in a single transaction will be awarded Status Miles according to a tiered structure. It is important to note that Status Miles are calculated solely on individual purchase transactions, not on the cumulative total of miles purchased during the campaign.

Earning Structure

To qualify for Status Miles, a minimum purchase of 100,000 redeemable miles in a single transaction is required. The Status Miles awarded are as follows:

• Purchases of 100,000–149,999 miles yield 5,000 Status Miles.

• Purchases of 150,000–199,999 miles yield 10,000 Status Miles.

• Purchases of 200,000–249,999 miles yield 15,000 Status Miles.

• Purchases of 250,000–500,000 miles yield 20,000 Status Miles.

A member can purchase a maximum of 500,000 redeemable miles and earn a maximum of 20,000 Status Miles under this campaign. For example, purchasing 100,000 miles and then 50,000 miles in separate transactions will only grant 5,000 Status Miles for the initial 100,000 miles purchase, with no Status Miles for the 50,000 miles transaction.

Status Miles earned through this campaign will be credited to members' Miles&Smiles accounts within seven days of the campaign period ending.

Opinion

The maximum amount of 20,000 Status Miles would get you halfway to 'Elite' status, which is what most travellers try to achieve as it comes with the useful Star Alliance Gold status. It is an expensive approach though.

For those close to an upgrade or renewal threshold, buying miles to bridge the gap might be a calculated move. However, members should carefully weigh the cost of purchasing the required redeemable miles against the value of the Status Miles received.
