Matched Status Levels and Benefits
EuroBonus Silver status matches to SkyTeam Elite, while EuroBonus Gold and Diamond match to SkyTeam Elite Plus. The matched status is valid for the remainder of the current EuroBonus membership year plus an additional 12 months, resulting in a total validity period of approximately 12 to 24 months, depending on the individual membership year end date. Requalification for the matched status will require meeting regular earning requirements after the initial validity period.
Key benefits for EuroBonus Gold (SkyTeam Elite Plus) include lounge access, Fast Track security, priority check-in, boarding, and baggage handling, along with additional baggage allowance. EuroBonus Diamond members receive all Gold benefits plus 75 percent more bonus points, 30 percent discount on regular points-paid flights, and no expiration of EuroBonus points. Applicants eligible for Diamond can opt for Gold to save 150 Euro, retaining the SkyTeam Elite Plus alliance benefits.
The status match also notably includes easyJet Plus membership as an eligible status for matching to EuroBonus Gold. However, the general terms state that the originating status must have been earned through flights, potentially excluding easyJet Plus members whose status was not flight-based.
Opinion
This paid status match from SAS EuroBonus is a reasonable way for frequent flyers to gain SkyTeam status, particularly SkyTeam Elite Plus via Gold or Diamond for up to 24 months.
The pricing seems fair given the benefits, especially with lounge access and priority perks. The flexibility to choose Gold over Diamond to save money while retaining Elite Plus benefits is a smart move for many.
